My Story

Ovdi enjoying hummus in Israel

I’m Oved, though most people know me as Ovdi.
My journey with hummus didn't start in a culinary school, it kicked off nearly 40 years ago when I tasted perfection in a small but famous hummus joint in Jaffa (in this picture, but only 15 years ago..).
Since then I must have eaten in well over a 100 different hummus places across the country, tasting the different flavours and texture between Galilee hummus to the ones made in Jerusalem and Jaffa. Experiencing the various types of chickpeas, learning to tell a real quality Tehina from an average one.
I kept going back to the places I fell in love with, got to know the folks who own them and a little glimpse into their journey and history of hummus making.
I started experimenting with making hummus myself about 25 years ago and 15 years ago I had my first go trying to sell it locally (in East Finchley) which went down very well but had to then take a rather long pause for another final role in the Tech world..
Now it's finally Hummus time!! :)

Back where I’m from, hummus is way more than just a dip — it is almost like a religion.
There is an ever growing hype around it, a culture symbol.
Hummus, and even more so Mesabacha, are not merely side dishes - they are the main event!
Everyone have their fav hummus joint as well as their Local, just like people here have it with pubs!

The Boutique Approach

Ovdi Hummus is a boutique shop by design.
I follow the tradition where by the best hummus is made in small batches, not mass-produced in a factory.

Everything I serve is homemade (bar the pitta bread).
I use only the freshest ingredients and absolutely no preservatives.
From the classic smooth hummus to the fiery Schug, every container is a tribute to tradition and many years of perfecting the craft.

Fresh to Your Door

My products are not made to sit on a supermarket shelf!
That is why I work on a simple promise: delivered fresh on the day to your door.
I prepare the hummus early in the morning and bring it to you by lunch, ensuring you taste the authentic difference of having it fresh, like it should be.
